Pedra de Lume is the old crater of a volcano flooded by the salty water where you can float for hours. It has become the most popular point for the tourist that visit the island. Located in the north is the island, close to the village of the same name, it is the oldest crater of the island and the main touristic attraction of the zone, accessible by one artificial tunnel which seems to separate two different worlds, an example of the spectacular industrial archaeology.
Pedra de Lume is also one of the few places in the archipelago and the best way to see many species of seabirds. Recently, this zone has been declared as a protected area and it is very fascinating for the eyes, because of the salt that makes the water change its colours from blue to turquoise and from pink to white.
